Introduction

Welcome to the Hayfield Farm Swim Team! We’re so glad to have you be a part of our fantastic team of swimmers, coaches and parents! We hope you will find this information helpful. We know that being new to a summer swim team can be overwhelming at times. We are happy to answer any questions you may have throughout the season.

Our team is part of the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL). The NVSL consists of 102 teams which are divided into 17 divisions with six teams in each division. We are in Division 12 along with Highland Park, Riverside Gardens, Holmes Run, Rolling Forest, and Parliament

Swimmers new to our team will be evaluated prior to starting practices.

Communication

General information is sent via email several times a week. In addition, we are asking swim team parents to sign up for the remind app to get text alerts about weather and other important information.

Meets

There are 5 developmental (aka ”B”) meets during the season typically on Monday nights.  This year our first meet will be on Monday, June 15th.  All other "B" meets will be on Monday nights.  All swimmers are encouraged to participate!

There are 5 competitive (aka “A”) meets during the season on Saturday mornings starting on Saturday, June 20th. Coaches select which swimmers swim in these meets based on fastest times.

Time trials are held the Saturday prior to the first meet of the season (June 13th) and they are for ALL swimmers (except Mini Hawks). At this meet only, swimmers swim each legal stroke for practice, experience and seeding purposes. They establish a baseline time for each swimmer for every stroke they swim and the results give each swimmer a time upon which they can build and reach a personal best time. It also serves as a practice for our officials and volunteers. Yes, volunteers are needed for this event and they need practice too!

For more information about meets, please see our Swim Meet Information page.

Meet Absences

If your swimmer is unavailable for any meet, please add their name to all meets they are not able to swim.  This helps the coaches put together the line up and minimize changes.

Team Suits

Our team suit is the Speedo Navy Aquablade and we are in  Year 3 of a 3 year suit. The suit is available for purchase at Sport Fair in Arlington.

The team suit is a competition suit (meaning it should be worn for A & B meets).    Both the jammer and the brief are available for boys. We recommend also purchasing a less expensive practice suit that can be worn every day at practices.  This will extend the life and performance of your suit.  Sport Fair usually has a large number of discontinued suits on clearance in the lower part of the store. Please be sure to mention that you are with the Hayfield Farm team.

Team Picture

Picture day is June 25th for all swimmers, divers and mini hawks.

Volunteers

It takes 40-50 parents to time, officiate and score a typical swim meet along with setup, snack bar help and cleaning up afterwards. Volunteer sign-up for meets is available on this site. Don’t be intimidated by signing up initially. Most jobs do not require any previous experience or training. To be a meet official, you must be trained. That training is offered through the NVSL for those interested.
